Remembrances

What I'll always carry with me from Lion Wayne is that infectious giggle-laugh that made the room come alive. My wife worked at Foote's Florist for about six years in the late seventies and early eighties, and she would always come home with the best Wayne jokes, usually passed on to him by Mom Foote. My son Brad drove delivery for him for a year or so. Wendi, his daughter, was a student of mine and shared that same giggle-laugh. Travel well, Wayne.

We'll miss you Lion Wayne.    With Love,

Lion Wayne Foote greeted me in his Florist Shop on High Street when I first arrived here in 1974. I became his customer and he became my friend. Many will sorely miss him.

My wife and I have known Wayne and Mary since before they were married.  Their children Bill and Wendy are the same ages as our children, Tobin and Lisa, and they grew up together as part of an extended family..  Wayne was an unforgettable friend, father, and grandfather, as well as a loving, giving human being to everyone around him.

For the past forty-one years, I have had the pleasure of knowing Wayne Foote.

One of Wayne’s many contributions to the Auburn Host Lions Club was his participation in the Lions International Youth Program.  With this regard, he participated both at the District level and in Auburn.

Back in the sixties and seventies, the age of our club’s membership ran from the 20s through the 80s.  Since many of us were raising our children during this time, Wayne would encourage us to host an exchange student for a portion of the summer, or he promoted the idea of having our children participate in the exchange program abroad.

Between the two Lions Clubs and other Auburn families, there were a number of foreign exchange students in town for part of the summer.  During their stay, a picnic dinner where all the foreign exchange students joined with our families became a tradition.  Wayne’s smiling face was always at the center of these fun events.

I will miss Wayne’s positive attitude,  and I appreciate all he has contributed to the fabric of the Auburn Host Lions Club.

What a loss to the Auburn Community and to Lionism! He was truly one of the legends of the Host Club. I have known Wayne all my life and been a Lion with him since I joined in 1973. Many of you never knew the younger Wayne and his total devotion to the Lion's International Youth Exchange Program. For many, many years Wayne led our and the District in this program. Almost no one in the club escaped having a foreign exchange student. He utilized all the resources of our community and hosted these students royally. We personally hosted Japanese students on two different occasions. He was also instrumental in placing our local kids in foreign homes with this program.

He will definitely be missed!
