Super Tuesday Voting

Camp Ross Relles Project

For the very first time. Auburn Host Lions participated in the national voting process in America, serving as Inspectors, judges, and clerks on the February 5th "Super Tuesday" in 2008. They were stationed at the mobile home park on Luther Road. They returned in June of 2008 and will be there again in November for the Presidential election.

Our project on the 16th, 17th, and 18th of September of 2007 was to replace the external siding on the cabin. All materials were provided. The project has continued on into 2008 under the leadership of Lion Roy Kleger.

All meals were provided.

The Annual Charity Golf Tournament

The 4th of July Parade

The Tournament to end all Tournaments. Great food, awesome contests and prizes, raffles upon raffles upon raffles all woven around the fastest five-hour scramble in Northern California. A quality sell-out every year, the 2006 Tourney was played on May 19 at the Ridge. 144 golfers enjoyed a great breakfast and dinner as well as a silent auction and mega-raffle. Kudus to Pip Stoutenburg for putting it all together. Golf Tourney Chair Pip and wife Kay head for the tee.

Every year the Auburn Host kick off summer and step forward to man the streets for the 4th of July parade in Auburn. Along with other local Lions clubs they provide check-in and alignment services as well as leading the various divisions in the parade.

The Auburn Air Fair

Dan Higgins Award Presentation

Held in August every year, the Auburn Air Fair is one of two summer "rallying points" for the Auburn Host, the other being the 4th of July parade. Under the leadership of Lion Chris Beckman, the club cooks and sells primo burgers and several kinds of beer to the throngs that enjoy watching the sky filled with the best aircraft Northern California can muster.

A WWII machine awaits Placer County visitors.

Every year in June when the old governing board leaves and the new governing board is installed, the club presents the Dan Higgins Award to a local non-governmental non-profit. The award is really the "Lion's share" of the yearly club treasury. It is given in the name of Dan Higgins, the club's only District Governor, who also distinguished himself as the club's president, a district attorney for Placer County and a local school board member. Dan's legacy is championed every June with the awarding of $10,000 or one-third of the club's yearly efforts in fund raising. Last year Child Advocacy of Placer County received the Dan Higgins award. Past President Larry Klink presents a check for $10,000 to Child Advocacy of Placer County.

White Cane Day

Boys and Girls Club Fishing Derby

The annual re-statement of the mission of all Lions Clubs comes always in the first week of October when Lions club members internationally ask the public to help them in their quest to provide assistance to the blind and visually impaired. Those little white plastic canes stuck on shirts and blouses are a great affirmation that Americans do care about the same issue that Helen Keller brought before the Lions decades ago. Lions Dennis, Jed, and Roy man the station at the post office.

Every summer the Auburn Host Club lends a hand with fishing derby put on by the Boys and Girls Club of Auburn. From baiting hooks to untangling lines, the Host Lions serve up a great summer day.Lion Roy gets a pole ready for casting.

Salvation Army Support

Paint Auburn

The Host Lions annually support the Salvation Army and their food closet (through donations of potatoes) as well as providing bell ringers for the Christmas holidays. Lion Dayton Koch presents a check to Vince.

Under the direction and working with the Auburn Rotary Club, the Auburn Host Lions work at enhancing homes and structures in the Auburn area. Wives of the Host Lions transplant shrubs under the watchful eyes of their spouses.

Boys and Girls Club Tutoring

Special Persons Day

For the past several years the Auburn Host Lions have volunteered their time to tutor members of the Auburn Boys and Girls Club. Auburn Host Joe Clay has devoted just about every possible day in meeting during the "Power Hour" where young people are assured of getting questions answered and their homework done. Lion Roy Kleger coordinates the tutoring assignments for the the club. Auburn Host Tom Johnson assists with homework.

When the Gold Country Fair kicks off the fall months, Auburn Host Lions are there to assist all special persons with making the day possible. Pushing wheelchairs, assisting in transportation, and providing companionship, the Auburn Host succeed in bringing the day alive for the handicapped and impaired. Lion Roy Kleger Offers Assistance.

Senior Health Fair

Annual Christmas Party

The Senior Health fair, held at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, provides area seniors with information as well as immunizations. The Auburn Host Lions provide a hot lunch for those who are hungry. Lions Bud and Dayton work underthe watchful eye of head cook Al.

Each Christmas season the club sponsors a party that includes entertainment and a dinner. Daryl the Magician wows them at the annual Christmas Party. Click on the photo for pictures of the party.

Student Speakers Contest

Noon Speakers Program

Each winter the Auburn Host Lions takes part in the district and national Student Speaker Contest. Students from local area schools speak on a pre-determined topic and are judged and evaluated. Winners go on to gain prize money and honors.

If it's an Auburn Host Lions meeting, it is just not a lunch. All meetings are accompanied by guest speakers who bring to light for information and discussion the varying issues affecting the Auburn community. Leo Club scholarship recipient Hilary Worland of Placer High speaks of her future.

Installation Night Dinner

Club Visitations

Installation Night Dinners are just that. In June of each year, members of the club induct new board officers and say farewell to those who have served in the previous year. New Board Members are sworn in at the Installation Night Dinner at the Auburn  Country Club

Club visitations are one of the "networking" activities of Auburn Host. Whether it is local in Auburn, Meadow Vista, Newcastle or Grass Valley or whether it is afar in Dayton, Nevada or Maui, Lions Club visitations provide members with a means of meeting fellow Lions across the globe. Lion Pip chats at the Meadow Vista Lions visitation.

District 4C5 Conventions

Lions Conventions— district, national, and international— are available to all members. Traditionally, the sitting president and incoming president attend district conventions and take part in a number of "breakout" sessions on all things Lion. The conventions are always capped by announcement of those Lions selected district, national and international governors and presidents. Lions Dick Anderson and Bud Beadles enjoy refreshments at a District 4c5 convention.
