The Auburn Air Fair |
The 4th of July Parade |
Held in August every year, the Auburn Air Fair is one of two summer "rallying points" for the Auburn Host, the other being the 4th of July parade. Under the leadership of Lion Jim Moore, the club cooks and sells primo burgers and several kinds of beer to the throngs that enjoy watching the sky filled with the best aircraft Northern California can muster. |
Every year the Auburn Host kick off summer and step forward to man the streets for the 4th of July parade in Auburn. Along with other local Lions clubs they provide check-in and alignment services as well as leading the various divisions in the parade. Lion Andy Zimmer works with the city and other Lions clubs in putting on this event. |

White Cane Day
Dan Higgins Award Presentation |
The annual re-statement of the mission of all Lions Clubs comes always in the first week of October when Lions club members internationally ask the public to help them in their quest to provide assistance to the blind and visually impaired. Those little white plastic canes stuck on shirts and blouses are a great affirmation that Americans do care about the same issue that Helen Keller brought before the Lions decades ago. Lions Dennis, Jed, and Roy man the station at the post office. A WWII machine awaits Placer County visitors.
Every year in June when the old governing board leaves and the new governing board is installed, the club presents the Dan Higgins Award to a local non-governmental non-profit. The award is really the "Lion's share" of the yearly club treasury. It is given in the name of Dan Higgins, the club's only District Governor, who also distinguished himself as the club's president, a district attorney for Placer County and a local school board member. Dan's legacy is championed every June with the awarding of a minimum of $1000. Last year the Riding High Equestrian Program received the Dan Higgins award.

Special Persons Day
For the past several years the Auburn Host Lions have volunteered their time to tutor members of the Auburn Boys and Girls Club. Auburn Host Joe Clay has devoted just about every possible day in meeting during the "Power Hour" where young people are assured of getting questions answered and their homework done. Lion Roy Kleger coordinates the tutoring assignments for the club. Above, Auburn Host Joe Clay assists with homework.
When the Gold Country Fair kicks off the fall months, Auburn Host Lions are there to assist all special persons with making the day possible. Pushing wheelchairs, assisting in transportation, and providing companionship, the Auburn Host succeed in bringing the day alive for the handicapped and impaired. Lion Roy Kleger Offers Assistance. |

District 4C5 Conventions |
Noon Speakers Program |
Lions Conventions— district, national, and international— are available to all members. Traditionally, the sitting president and incoming president attend district conventions and take part in a number of "breakout" sessions on all things Lion. The conventions are always capped by announcement of those Lions selected district, national and international governors and presidents. Lions Dick Anderson and Bud Beadles enjoy refreshments at a District 4c5 convention.
If it's an Auburn Host Lions meeting, it is just not a lunch. All meetings are accompanied by guest speakers who bring to light for information and discussion the varying issues affecting the Auburn community and Lionism. President Chuck Rogers greets Moufid Hammami, president of the Carthage Mosaic Lions Club of Tunisia that chose to twin with the Auburn Host Lions. |

Installation Night Dinner |
Club Visitations |
I nstallation Night Dinners are just that. In June of each year, members of the club induct new board officers and say farewell to those who have served in the previous year. New Board Members are sworn in at the Installation Night Dinner. |
Club visitations are one of the "networking" activities of Auburn Host. Whether it is local in Auburn, Meadow Vista, Newcastle or Grass Valley or whether it is afar in Dayton, Nevada or Maui, Lions Club visitations provide members with a means of meeting fellow Lions across the globe. Lion Pip chats at the Meadow Vista Lions visitation.
