Auburn Host Lions Board Minutes

December 2011

 

The meeting was called to order at 5:30pm on December 13, 2011 by Auburn Host Lion Club President Al Dumm. In attendance were President Al Dumm, Bob Shields, Dennis Lloyd, Jim Moore, Mark Stempel, Pip Stoutenburg, Kevin Casey, Dave Herb, Dan Mclain, Tom Johnson, Larry Klink, Bob Hostler.

 

The minutes of the last two meetings (October and November) were approved.

 

The treasurer's report showed the charity amount with a balance of $39,476.91 and the Admin account with a balance of $6813.08. All bills approved as read.

 

Prez Al let us know that the next meeting, January 4th, he will be absent and Jim Moore will stand in to lead the meeting.

 

Larry Klink reported that our evening meeting experiment, taking place on January 11th at 5:30pm, will include hors d'oeuvres but no dinner.. The Tahoe club's bar will be open. It will be a dues penalty amnesty night.

 

Tom Johnson reported on the new club brochure. He said the printing costs would be about $1000 for four hundred brochures.

 

Prez Al reported that our caterer needs to raise the cost of our Wednesday meeting lunches from $10 per person to $12 per person. After discussion, the board agreed to raise the cost of lunch per person to $13. Club members will be charged $11. Two dollars per person will be taken from the admin fund to cover the difference. The cost to non-lunch eating members will rise from $2 to $5. The new prices will take effect in January.

 

President Al reported that the Events Chairman needs to collect hours worked on events and pass the data to Moe Griffith to be compiled.

 

Request for contributions:

 

Ken Tokutomi foundation for WW2 veterans requested a donation. No board interest as our club has donated previously.
Trickey Family Fundraiser in Grass Valley. No board interest.
Advocates for the Mentally Ill in Auburn. No board interest.
A donation of $500 was approved by the board for the orphanage in Viet Nam.
Bowman school PTA has a fundraiser open house in May 2012. A motion was made by Dave Herb to contribute $250. Motion voted down by board.
From Lions district 4 we received twenty tickets to the Lions Youth Exchange Program. The board voted to purchase all twenty tickets for $100.

 

Secretary Bob Shields suggested for our 85 year anniversary next April our club purchase a full page in the Auburn Journal to list club history and accomplishments. Bob Shields and Tom Johnson will make plans for this celebration.

Dan Mclain asked Larry Klink about his idea of the club supplying doggie bags for the dog park at Ashford park. Lion Larry reported that he's working on it.

Camp Ross Relles requested that we renew our retiring five-year pledge to support the camp. Prez Al will talk to Joe Clay about future plans for Ross Relles before the board decides. It was suggested that Lions 4C-5 should take the lead on the camp support.

 

Lion Joe Rawson and Lion Jim Ryan will be participating in the upcoming Celebrity Chef event. The board voted to cover $100 of the cost of their food for the event.

 

Dennis Lloyd reported that for the upcoming Flag day, the club needs to purchase new 6"X9" flags to be presented to the students at the school classes our club visits.

 

Kevin Casey shared that with the possibility of kayak racing becoming popular in the American river outside of Auburn, our club should consider becoming involved, both as a fund-raiser and as our club's signature event.

Mark Stempel reminded the board that the Christmas toys need to be brought to the club's general meeting at noon tomorrow, Dec 14th.

 

Pip suggested that the club's storage location needs to be cleaned.. Pip also reminded the board that we should wear our club vests to the fairgrounds when we distribute the potatoes for the Christmas baskets.

Bob Shields said we should order 150 of the new 85 year anniversary club pins when they are done.

 

The board's thanks go to Jim Moore for arranging our meeting in the office conference room and for the dinner spread.

The meeting was adjourned by President Al at 7:55pm.
